Label checklist
The label is not a speed bump before a sale. Health history and other medicines can change the whole plan.
Common effects
Stomach problems are the most common side effects.
In Zepbound’s weight trials, roughly 25 to 29 of every 100 people on the medicine had nausea.
On a placebo, the figure was 8 in every 100 people.
Diarrhea, vomiting and constipation were also common. They happened most often early in treatment while trial doses were being raised.
Placebo means a look-alike treatment with no active medicine. It makes a trial result easier to judge.

Both tirzepatide labels carry an FDA boxed warning because thyroid tumors showed up in rats.
It is not known whether tirzepatide causes those tumors in people.
If you or a close relative ever had medullary thyroid cancer, the labels rule tirzepatide out.
They also rule it out for people with MEN 2 and anyone with a known serious allergy to tirzepatide or its ingredients.
MEN 2 is the short name of a rare illness passed down in families. Medullary thyroid cancer is a rare kind of cancer in the thyroid, the gland at the front of the neck.
Listen for the family-history question. If no one asks, the visit missed a direct item from the label.
Health history
The labels tie several health details to care. They include past pancreas or gallbladder trouble, severe stomach problems and diabetic eye disease.
Pregnancy, birth control pills, other diabetes medicines and planned surgery also matter.
Tirzepatide can make birth control pills work less well for a time.
The Zepbound label says people on the pill need a non-pill method, or a backup such as condoms, for four weeks after starting and for four weeks after each dose increase.
During surgery, while a patient is put to sleep with anesthesia, food left in the stomach has been breathed into the lungs. Tell both the surgeon and the prescribing doctor as soon as any surgery or procedure is booked. They decide whether to change anything, and when.

A severe allergic reaction can begin within seconds or minutes. It is life-threatening.
Trouble breathing or swallowing, face or tongue swelling, fainting, or loss of consciousness can signal anaphylaxis.
